Publicity can be a tricky trade. The object of publicity is not to overtly plug your company, but to gently acquire recognition as an “expert” in your industry. We wouldn’t ever find an article about global warming on the front page of the newspaper that quoted John Smith, full-time banker that had a penchant for horticulture. No! Rather we would find Jane Smith, founder and President of Smith Ecological Research Labs, as our quoted expert. The media, as well as the business world, enjoy working with individuals who are very focused in a highly specialized field. When you become an “expert in your field”, then the media will start working for you. WBENC is currently offering all certified WBEs a chance to illustrate how they are experts in their own fields, and more importantly, how they got to that field in the first place. In WBENC’s next book, I Can Do That, Susan Phillips Bari will be using real-life success stories from our current WBEs. Here is a WBE’s chance to not only “publicize” their company, but to also get their company’s name in print of a major publication geared towards women business owners nationwide. CHALLENGE: What do you do and how did a can do attitude lead you to where you are today? Please post your story http://icandothat-wbenc.blogspot.com Kate Chrisman |
