PRESS RELEASE: 14 WOMEN'S BUSINESSES NAMED "2009 WOMEN'S BUSINESS ENTERPRISE STARS" BY WOMEN'S BUSINESS ENTERPRISE NATIONAL COUNCIL Entrepreneurs Demonstrate Success in Uncertain Times Washington, DC – January 8, 2009 – Fourteen exemplary women business leaders will step into the spotlight to receive the nation’s premier award for excellence among women’s business enterprises (WBEs) bestowed by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) at its Annual Salute to Women’s Business Enterprises. On Thursday, March 26, 2009, 1,000 corporate executives, WBEs and government and nonprofit VIPs will acknowledge the innovation, drive and inventiveness demonstrated by women’s business enterprise at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. The 2009 WBENC Women’s Business Enterprise Stars are selected by WBENC’s 14 Regional Partner Organizations (RPOs) that conduct WBENC’s world-class certification of WBEs in each of their territories, in addition to providing skill-building educational programs and business development opportunities with major corporations. “Our 2009 Women’s Business Enterprise Stars illustrate this country’s vital ability to build successful businesses,” said Linda Denny, WBENC President and CEO, the leading advocate for and authority on WBEs. “These women’s strategic vision, business acumen and sheer talent combine to meet their corporate clients’ complex needs and propel our economy forward.” In 2009, WBENC is enhancing this annual event by presenting its first Summit, which includes strategic educational workshops and industry meetings that will address the current and future business needs of WBEs and WBENC’s Corporate Members. Topics such as “Bridges for Growth: A Multi-Prong Approach to Accelerating the Growth of Businesses Owned by Women of Color,” and “Maximizing Results in the Current Economy” will be addressed in advance of the Salute. “This memorable two-day event will provide participants with valuable industry knowledge and the opportunity to participate in an evening of celebration and recognition,” said Kevin Campbell, Group Chief Executive – Outsourcing, Accenture, LLP, the Chair of the WBENC Summit and Salute to Women’s Business Enterprises.
